Well the Zen came back with a shiny new motherboard 4megs of Ram and the new Innuos Operating system and is apparently now masquerading as a Zen Mini Mk 2 or 3 who knows or cares it works Lol.

Sounds the same as before irrespective of whether I play it with Orange Squeeze straight through the Dac or as before with a Squeezebox Touch in the mix as the controller. Can't honestly say the new software is any better than the old Vortexbox, its just different although I have not got onto trying to change album covers or retagging stuff yet which is maybe where the new software will be an improvement.

I use Roon as the ZEN can be a Roon Core. Would not be without it now, happy to bring my ZEN over with my iPad and let you have a go if you want Andy, or drop over here.

Just what is the advantage of using Roon Paul. I looked at it while I was setting it all up and concluded that if its rips and stores cds I can get 5 live extra on it and it replays the cds what else do I really need it to do.

I am now a heavy Tidal user so having one overall view of my FLAC & HiRes collection + Tidal in Roon is very neat.
You can also add into this Qobuz (I added a trial for the Kegworth show) but for what I listen to considered it expensive as it's 99.9% in Tidal.

Roon has also loads of stuff if you are interested, e.g. DSP, and as my DAC is MQA capable and a Roon endpoint I have access to the growing hi-res library in Tidal at no extra cost. The Studio level MQA is very impressive and I have done demos at bakeoffs, almost all hear the difference, even the vinyl heads! Only one mate didn't like it but he likes NOS DACs ðŸ˜• This, for example, sounds wonderful https://www.hdtracks.co.uk/arnesen-magnificat?___store=uk&nosto=nosto-page-search1  at 352kHz/24bit

Funny thing is that I started down the ZEN route to make CD collection ripped and more easily managed.
Wife thinks I was decluttering but I know I was clearing a nice TT sized space, more to follow . . . . ðŸ˜†
