Like many, I have a love-hate relationship with Tom Waits. In particular I hate the first song or two in any of his albums due to his 'singing' and by the time I get to track five, I'm happily foot tapping along. Great arrangements and musicianship eventualy overcomes the stylised vocals. 3.75/5

I just can't get passed his voice. There are artists who I like who can't really sing, Ian Dury springs to mind but Waits seems a bit contrived to me. I'll never buy it or listen again. It's got to be a one from me.

It never occurred to me that he put it on until a few people mentioned it but he is playing a part , getting into character so I can't see the problem with this .

It’s a case of once one gets a notion, it’s hard to shift. A work-mate of mine once said “Free are boring”, and on reflection (with those words lodged in my brain), it’s hard to disagree 😀
